Are you a PLURK BRAT?

Social networking nowadays are so in demand that’s why a lot of social networks sprouted. Friendster is one of the most used social network in the Philippines and one of the oldest. Then there was MySpace, Multiply, Flickr, Twitter and the most used SN today, Facebook!

Another SN was introduced to me by a friend. At first I was hesitant since I have a lot of SN to open and this one will add up to my sign in/sign out list. So I sign up and started plurking! That’s what they call it!

Plurk was created by The A-Team and was launched on May 12, 2008. Plurk was developed by and envisioned as a communication medium meant to form a balance between blogs and social networks, and between e-mail messaging and instant messaging.

The etymology of the name was explained by the developers as such:

  • abbreviation of ‘people’ and ‘lurk’
  • portmanteau of ‘play’ and ‘work’
  • acronym of peace, love, unity, respect, and karma
  • verb neologism, similar to how Google was eventually used as a verb

PLURK is very popular in the Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia. It ranked no. 24 in Taiwan and 1,062nd worldwide according to Alexa. Plurk is free and has service that allows users to send updates (otherwise known as plurks) through short messages or links, which can be up to 140 text characters in length. Your plurks can be posted to your other social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Facebook accounts.

So try plurking and be a PLURK BRAT!! Sign up now and look for me!!
